Military Style boarding schools are very effective & productive in providing quality education along with great extra-curricular stuffs. Parents of teens who thinks that their teens need specific discipline & career oriented place, military boarding schools are best for them, whether after schooling they want to join the military as a career or not. Parents should need to evaluate the teens’ point of view so that the boarding school plan should not be enforced on him/her.

I have a friend that was on a military school for boys that he is with now and really enjoyed. He gain to himself the discipline and the leadership and I salute for his greatest achievements and success in his life.

I assist families with finding the right boarding school that matches their teenager’s specific needs. I really like Adam’s comment that recognizes there are many different levels of care at these schools. There are also many different types of schools that cater to specific issues such as Asperger, Reactive Attachment, ADHD, addiction, etc and it is really important to find the right fit. I think these schools are an excellent idea. Though you dealt with more secular therapeutic schools in your article, I’d like to mention that the fact that those with a strong faith component in their families and lives might find a Christian boarding school specializing in dealing with at-risk teens to be a great option.

Thanks for highlighting the importance of therapeutic boarding schools, Jolina. Not enough families know that these types of schools even exist. I would urge that families be cautious in determining what level of care in a residential setting is necessary. Some may require a more intensive milieu found in residential treatment, whereas some students may be better suited in a school that specializes in learning supports. Notwithstanding that, therapeutic boarding schools, when appropriate, can be life-changing…
